Athletes may be 4 years ahead or behind their chronological calendar age. There are 5 stages of puberty and athletes will be assessed to confirm their stage of development. Athletes SHOULD NOT blindly follow standardized plans based on calendar age, and group training models are not usually optimal.
Puberty greatly affects an athlete’s athletic development and focus during strength and conditioning. Peak Height Velocity and Peak Weight Velocity concepts addressed and tracked. Recommendations provided to utilize the athlete’s current stage of development to get the most out of a strength and conditioning program.
